Loyd “Pete” “Chief” Clemmons, age 87, of Portland, passed away at his residence on March 10, 2018. He was born in Portland, TN on September 7th, 1930 to the late Loyd Jackson Clemmons & Revie (Clouse) Clemmons.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Clemmons; four children, Michael Clemmons, David (Vickey) Clemmons, Kim (Travis) Akins, & Heather (Eddie) Brewster, all of Portland; 6 grandchildren, Matt (Kat) Clemmons, James (Megan) Clemmons Sam (Jenda) Clemmons, Todd Akins, Abby Akins, & Ryan Brewster; two great grandchildren, Jessie “Jabo” Clemmons.
Loyd grew up in the South Tunnel/ Hollis Chapel area of Sumner Co. He was a 1948 graduate of Sumner County High School and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Loyd “Pete” is a 20 year retired Navy Veteran. He served on the very first nuclear power task force. He served on the USS Bainbridge (DLGN25), USS The Sullivans, & USS .O’Hara. He retired from the Navy in 1967 where he began teaching air conditioning & refrigeration at Nashville vocational school. Also, he retired from the State of Tennessee in 1988.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 At Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Forrest Creekmore & Bro. James Parker officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 12th, 2018 from 11 am til 9 pm & on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 from 10 am til 1 pm at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Old Bruch Cemetery.
