Motorcyclist, 19, killed in collision north of White House

A 19-year-old White House man was killed on Tuesday afternoon just north of  the city limits of White House.

The crash between a motorcycle and a truck occurred around 4:30 p.m. at 4201 US Hwy 31 W near Bowling Branch Road. The highway was blocked to traffic for several hours as troopers investigated the scene.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a southbound vehicle driven by Bruce Coleman, 66, of Portland, had slowed down to make a left turn from Hwy. 31 onto Bowling Branch Road. Three vehicles behind Coleman also slowed down, but a motorcycle, driven by Jonathan Cortez passed the vehicles at “at an extremely high rate of speed,” crossing a double yellow line before striking Coleman’s vehicle.
