As the basketball season begins to wrap up and teams continue to jockey for position in postseason play, Wilson Central picked up two big wins at Station Camp on Friday night.
It was a back-and-forth game between the Lady Bison and Lady Wildcats, but the three ball helped propel Wilson Central to a 59-50 win.
The two sides traded runs in the first frame, but it was Wilson Central (15-10, 6-6) that led 16-15 after one. Station Camp (12-12, 6-6) was able to take their first lead early in the second quarter, but a 10-0 run pushed Central back ahead. The Lady Wildcats would finish a second quarter that saw three ties ahead 32-24.
Wilson Central kept things rolling to start the second half, as they built an 18-point lead. The Lady Bison didn’t go away, however, as they built their own 15-0 run that spanned from the end of the third quarter to the beginning of the fourth that was powered by three three-pointers from senior Jane Deason.
Station Camp kept it within three for most of the final frame, but was unable to get any closer as the Lady Wildcat defense stifled them the rest of the way and closed out a 59-50 win.
Julie Maki led the way for Wilson Central with 23 points, hitting four of the teams eight three-pointers.
Deason led all scorers in the game with 24 points, including hitting six from behind the arc.

In another game that saw plenty of runs for both sides, Wilson Central was able to outlast the Bison for a 51-45 win.
Station Camp (13-12, 5-7) jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Wildcats were able to climb back into things, tying it at 18 early in the second frame. The Bison then used an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead and take a 30-24 lead into the half.
Wilson Central (10-14, 5-7) came out firing in the second half, however, as they opened the half on a 14-2 run. The Bison were able to stave off too much damage and things were tied at 40 after three quarters.
The two sides traded 5-0 runs and it was tied at 45 midway through the final frame. Wilson Central’s Gavin Johnson laid one in with just over two minutes remaining in the game and that would prove to be the game winner as the Wildcats closed at the 51-45 victory.
Kyzick Schweppe led the scoring for Wilson Central with 13 points, followed by Johnson with nine points.
Station Camp senior Jonathan Gillard, Jr. led all scorers in the game with 24 points.
