Girls Basketball

The Beech Lady Buccaneers remained undefeated in district 9-AAA play with their 67-38 win over Gallatin.

Gallatin (9-12, 1-9) was able to stay in things early on, trailing by just one with six minutes left in the first half. That would be as close as they would get, however, as the Lady Bucs’ full-court press defense quickly gave Beech all of the momentum.

Behind the press, Beech (19-5, 10-0) was able to turn a one-point lead into an 11-point lead in less than a minute on their way to a 14-0 run. From the six-minute mark in the second quarter, Beech would outscore the Lady Wave 20-2 to take a 39-20 lead into the half.

The second half would prove to be much of the same as Beech led by as many as 33 on their way to the 67-38 victory.

A total of 10 players chipped in offensively for Beech, led by junior Kennedy Powell with 16 and sophomore Deshyia Hoosier with 12.

Gallatin sophomore Jo’Neca Talley led all scorers with 18 points.

Box Score:
Beech (67): Kennedy Powell (16), Deshyia Hoosier (12), Jana Claire Swafford (10), Mia Dean (7), Savannah Jarratt (6), Kendra Mueller (4), Gracie Hines (4), Taylor Nix (4), Ryleigh Piotto (2), Destiny Tinker (2)
Gallatin (38): Jo’Neca Talley (18), LaMonica Mintlow (11), Janaya Newsome (3), Veronica Varoz (2), Makayla Wright (2), Talor Crenshaw (2)

Boys Basketball

The Green Wave boy’s basketball team was able to maintain their led atop the district 9-AAA standings with a 56-41 win over Beech.

Gallatin (20-4, 8-2) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the game and would never trail for the duration of the game. The Green Wave would build their lead to as many as 14 points, but would go into the half leading 26-17.

Beech (13-13, 3-7) didn’t go away, however, as they came out firing in the second half. The Buccaneers were able to close the gap to two points in the third quarter as they found the basket on their first seven possessions of the second half.

The Green Wave would stop the run there though, as they held Beech scoreless for the final two and a half minutes of the third quarter and went on a 7-0 run of their own to take a 40-31 lead into the final frame.

A Ty Dean three-pointer would bring Beech back within four with just over three minutes remaining, but those would be the final Buccaneer points of the night as the Green Wave sealed the 56-41 win.

Seniors Zyun Mason and Zool Kueth led the way for the Green Wave with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Jayson Brown led the Buccaneers with 13 points, followed closely by Dean with 12.

Box Score:
Beech (41): Jayson Brown (13), Ty Dean (12), Jalen Woods (6), Mitchell Sorenson (4), A.J. Robertson (2), Seth Holmes (2), Nelson Smith (2)

Gallatin (56): Zyun Mason (18), Zool Kueth (15), Octavion Arnold (10), Larodre Clark (5), Parish Cloud (3), Collin Minor (3), Maison Terrell (2)

With just four games remaining in district play, both schools continue to jostle for postseason position. Beech will play host to Mt. Juliet on Tuesday night, while Gallatin travels to Wilson Central.
