White House holds grand opening event Saturday for Rover’s Ridge Dog Park

On Saturday, May 5, the city of White House will hold a grand opening for the Rover’s Ridge Dog Park.

White House Mayor Michael Arnold has been a big proponent of the dog park. He formed a committee and several animal lovers from the community volunteered to help the park come to fruition.

One of the volunteers, Jill Pepper, said Mayor Arnold was very instrumental for this dream to become a reality.

“Mayor Arnold is a dog lover and it’s very not often that you don’t see him with this dog,” Pepper said. “If it wasn’t for him this wouldn’t have happened. He’s been the driving force behind [it].”

Rover’s Ridge is located at 420 Highway 76 in White House and sits on nearly two acres of land.

The dog park will have one side designated for large dogs and a side for small dogs.

“We didn’t want to build just a yard with a fence,” Pepper added. “We wanted something for the dogs to enjoy when they are here.”

One of the features includes something that resembles a huge gumball machine. When you put a quarter into the machine a tennis ball comes out for the dogs to play with. They also have a pavilion with four picnic tables.

According to Pepper the celebration will feature a lot of activities for dogs.

“We will have trainers, demonstrations, doggy product vendors, giveaways including leashes, tennis balls, a six-month subscription to BarkBox, training package and discounts valued at $225 and more… several adoption agencies will be on hand,” Pepper said. “Saturday is also National Dog Park Day and this is a great way to open the park.”

The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m.
