Pigs in the Park Festival brings BBQ competition, dog show to Hendersonville

Pigs in the Park BBQ Fest will bring food, music and plenty of competition to Hendersonville’s Drakes Creek Park Saturday.

Competitions will cater to grillers, bakers and those with cute dogs. There will also be a human pageant.

Pigs in the Park schedule:

6 a.m. – BBQ competition starts
a.m. – Festival opens to the public
9 a.m. – Beauty pageant starts
​10 a.m. – Kids Zone opens
​11 a.m. – Baking competition starts
​11 a.m. – BBQ lunch starts
12 p.m. – Live music starts
2 p.m. – Cutie Canine Contest 2017 starts

The BBQ lunch is sponsored by The Animal Clinic Hendersonville.

Backyard BBQ Competition

The BBQ competition is open to all amateur grillers. A $125 entry fee covers a whole team cooking up pork butt, ribs and chicken.

Meat can be entered in any or all of the three categories.

Winners will take home trophies.

The competition is sanctioned by the Memphis BBQ Network as a Backyard BBQ Competition.

Entry fee proceeds will benefit Mary’s Magical Place and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Hendersonville.

Cutie Canine Contest:

The Pigs in the Park Cutie Canine Contest has been dubbed the “most fun dog show ever.”

Dogs can be dressed up or not, and there are no breed requirements to enter.

A festival representative said judges are looking for “fun, happy and well-loved family pets.” Categories include “waggiest tail.”

Dogs can enter the contest for $15 each, and winners will take trophies home.

Proceeds will benefit Mary’s Magical Place.

Miss Hendersonville 2017:

The first annual Miss Hendersonville will start at 9 a.m. Saturday. It is open to babies from newborn to 23 months and girls between ages 2 and 24.

Age Divisions: 
Tiny Miss: 0-2 
Little Miss: 3-6 
Young Miss: 7-9 
Jr. Miss: 10-12
Miss Hendersonville Teen: 13-16 
Miss Hendersonville: 17 and up

First place winners in each age category will receive a crown, sash and prize basket.

Miss Hendersonville winner will also receive a $100 cash scholarship. The Tiny Miss Hendersonville and Little Miss Hendersonville winners will receive a $50 cash scholarships.

Kids Zone:

The Pigs in the Park Kids Zone will feature inflatable bounce castles and obstacle courses, as well as a life size Hungry Hippo game.

Kids can play from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a one-time $5 fee.

The Kids Zone is sponsored by Higgs Pediatric Dentistry.
