April showers this week might bring May flowers, but be sure to cover your plants and flowers during a midweek cold snap.

Though he isn’t a horticulturist, National Weather Service Meteorologist Darrell Massie recommended bringing tender plants inside or covering them during Wednesday night and Thursday morning’s cold snap.

Temperatures could dip into the low to mid 30s that night, but tomorrow, expect a warm day in the mid 70s.

“This time of the year, you have some cold air that can easily come in behind these strong fronts that roll in in the spring,” Massie said.

Strong winds aren’t out of place for the region, so expect those to continue throughout the week, along with on and off rain.

For the weekend, temperatures will stay moderate, in the mid 50s and 60s, with a chance for light precipitation.

“March and April, it’s kind of a topsy turvy weather thing,” Massie said.
