Heritage was simply ‘perfect’ in regional win over Lady Royals

Heritage was simply ‘perfect’ in regional win over Lady Royals

Staff Reports

It’s not often that any team can say they were perfect in an outing, especially once they get into the region semifinals, but the White House Heritage softball team was just that on Monday, handing Martin Luther King Lady Royals a 12-0 loss in five innings.

“This was big for us, but every win is big once you get to this point of the season,” Heritage coach Leslie Barrow said. “I thought this was a good team victory even though Alyssa will probably get all the accolades.

“We had several girls with multiple hits, and no pitcher ever throws a perfect game without some help behind her in the field.”

Arden is now almost up to double figures in perfect games for the season, striking out 12 batters in just five innings of work.

Heritage came out a little sluggish in the first two innings, unable to put anything on the board, but the Lady Patriots put up five runs in the bottom of the third inning and then exploded for another nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 12-0.

With their backs against the wall in the top of the fifth the Lady Royals were again unable to get a single base runner on the pads and Heritage will now await its sixth meeting with Greenbrier this season.

“We’re really looking forward to our game with Greenbrier, not because of a rivalry, or a win-loss record, but because we know they will give us a good game,” Barrow said. “At this point of the season I think you need to keep seeing high level teams because no matter who we face in the Sub-state round it’s going to be a tough game.”

Greenbrier also beat Hume Fogg 17-1 in the other Region 5-AA semifinal game and will play Heritage tonight at 6 p.m. at Heritage.

Both teams will advance to the sub-state round, the winner will host and the loser will be on the road.

The winner of those games will be one of eight teams that will head to Spring Fling in Murfreesboro to contend for the AA state championship. Heritage finished runner-up last year and is hoping for another chance to take its first state championship in softball in school history.
