Hendersonville detectives arrest traveling softball coach on charges of statutory rape

Kenneth “Kenny” Smith, 45, director of a traveling high school softball program, was arrested Thursday by Hendersonville Police Detectives at his residence in Maryville, Tennessee following their investigation of allegations that he had sexual contact on multiple occasions with a girl under 18 years old.

The investigation began on December 11, 2018, when Hendersonville Police began investigating a report that a female had been sexually assaulted by a while in Hendersonville. Investigation into this report by Hendersonville Detectives yielded evidence of multiple incidents of sexual advances and contact by the suspect with the victim when she was under the age of 18 in Hendersonville and other jurisdictions.

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Smith is being held in the Sumner County Jail charged with 2 counts of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure and 2 counts of Solicitation of a Minor. Kenneth Smith is scheduled to appear in Sumner County General Sessions Court on January 9, 2019.
