Gallatin to host youth job fair on Thursday

Several businesses and Gallatin leaders are coming together to help the youth workforce on Thursday, April 12.

A Youth Job fair will be taking place at the Gallatin Civic Center. It is designed for people ages 14-24. The fair will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The City of Gallatin, Gallatin Chamber of Commerce, and the American Job Center are hosting the event in the hopes of bringing Gallatin employers and the youth together.

“We’re trying to help the youth in Gallatin find jobs for summer, seasonal, after school, and part-time jobs,” Gallatin Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Baker said. “The timing of the event will allow students in high school and college to attend after school hours.”

Some of the employers that have signed on include the City of Gallatin Parks and Recreation, Gallatin Police Department, Epic Event Center, Chick-fil-A, Gallatin Shalom Zone, GAP, O’Charley’s, and the American Job Center.

With the end of school insight Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown thought this would be great for everyone involved.

“Summer employment with youth-friendly employers is so important in building the character of our young people and launching their first work experience,” Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said. “We’re happy to partner with local employers of all types to provide both experience and income to our youth.”

Baker said it’s important to make a great first impression at the job fair.

“I would recommend students to dress up like they are going to an interview,” Baker said. “It’s also important to know their work schedule and a resume wouldn’t hurt. The most important thing to do is to show up.”

Bethany Sullivan, Director of Career Services at the American Job Center, said they are still looking to get more employers signed up for the event.

“With the civic center being so large, we can probably have 60 businesses in the gym,” Sullivan said. “We’re trying to get some of the youth employed with some income coming in.”
