FightFluTN campaign will be giving free flu shots on Dec. 5 in Gallatin

The Tennessee Department of Health is trying to get as many people as possible immunized against influenza by offering flu vaccines at no charge to the community during a special “FightFluTN” vaccination event December 5.

Nationwide, the 2017 – 2018 flu season saw the highest number of flu-related deaths among children reported in a regular flu season, with 185 American children dying from seasonal flu. About 80 percent of these children had not received a flu shot that flu season.

The Regional Health Department in Gallatin will be giving flu shots at an offsite clinic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Gallatin Civic Center, 844 210 Albert Gallatin Ave., Gallatin, Tennessee 37066.

Seasonal influenza activity is spreading across Tennessee and is expected to continue for months, so it’s important for anyone over six months of age who hasn’t had a flu shot this flu season to get one now. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions. The flu shot remains the best protection against influenza.
