105 teams expected for Premier Girls Fastpitch tournament next week

Sumner County Tourism hosts the Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) Southeast Regional Championship at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee, from Tuesday, July 17 – Saturday, July 21. This is the second year that Sumner County Tourism has welcomed PGF to Hendersonville.

“We are honored that PGF returned to Hendersonville for their regional championship tournament,” said Sumner County Tourism’s Executive Director Barry Young. “This is one of the largest softball tournaments our county has hosted and it provides a great economic impact on Sumner County. The teams stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, shop in our stores, and purchase gas for their vehicles. Last year the Drakes Creek Park concession stands made over $10,000 in sales from PGF visitors; the concession sales support our local sports’ teams, which is yet another wonderful positive for the community.”

A total of 105 teams comprised of teenage girls are registered to play in the championship tournament. Local teams participating include the TN Angels Premier from Hendersonville in the 18U division, as well as Team Kaos 03 from Goodlettsville and Firepower from White House in the 16U division. Area teams also hail from Nashville, Greenbrier, Mt. Juliet, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Columbia, and Spring Hill. Visiting teams are traveling from across Tennessee to play in the championship as well as from the following southeastern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Additionally, Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey are represented in the championship.

Sumner County Tourism will be on-site at Drakes Creek Park providing hospitality to umpires and coaches, and passing out information to visitors about Sumner County. Donations to the tournament are provided by the following Hendersonville retailers: Select Physical Therapy, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Publix, Wendy’s and Kroger; the Gallatin Kroger on Nashville Pike also made a donation.

Sumner County Tourism is a 501(c)(6) non-profit destination marketing organization that promotes and encourages tourism to and within Sumner County, Tennessee.
